Located in Hobart city centre, the Maritime Museum of Tasmania can be found in the historic Secheron House, which was built in 1831 and is now listed by the Australian National Trust. Celebrating the nautical past of the nearby docklands, the Maritime Museum of Tasmania has a variety of exhibitions and displays, including local artefacts and relics, photographs, models, historic documents and general maritime memorabilia. Hobart's Maritime Museum of Tasmania also features a large collection of paintings and a popular gift shop.

Founded in 1983, the Tasmanian Transport Museum is situated in the Glenorchy area of Hobart and is best known for its extensive collection of lovingly restored steam locomotives and wooden carriages. Other attractions at Hobart's Tasmanian Transport Museum include a number of historic trams, trolley buses, wagons, tractors, stationary steam engines, steam-train events and regular train journeys, which take place on the first and third Sunday each month.
