Hobart Art Galleries

(Hobart, Tasmania - TAS, Australia)

Hobart galleries feature many impressive and important collections of art, including contemporary and traditional paintings, sculptures, ceramics and Aboriginal pieces of various descriptions. The art scene in Hobart and throughout Tasmania has flourished since colonial times, particularly during the early 1800s.

Now regarded as one of the premier attractions in the city of Hobart, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery was founded in the middle of the 19th century by the Royal Society of Tasmania. As well as housing an extensive collection of colonial and contemporary art works, the museum is also home to various displays relating to the island's geological history, flora and fauna, past penal colonies and the story of the British settlement.
